Matlacha

Matlacha is a old fishing town encompassed by the Pine Island Sound and Matlacha Pass. These waters are full of oyster beds creating hard bottom shallow flats that leave fly fisherman with opportunites at tarpon, snook and redfish. Boca grande, Captiva, Redfish and San Carlos Pass allow a variety of sportfish onto the flats of Pine Island Sound and Matlacha Pass; while the Caloosahatchee and charlotte harbor are the main rivers that feed warm water to the north and south end of the zone. Pine island and the mainland to the east have plenty of creeks that provide habitat and feeding cooridors.
Esetero Bay
Estero bay is an estuary just inland of Fort myers beach, roughly a 15 square mile estuary that has snook, redfish, and tarpon cruising the edge of the bays. From creeks in the mangroves to back bays with several main inlets to the gulf, these game fish will cycle through the bay looking for shrimp, crabs, and baitfish.
